FHT Holds Multi-Stakeholder Discussion on Inclusivity and Internet Infrastructure Development in Timor-Leste

On Thursday, 14 November 2024, Fundasaun Hadomi Timor (FHT) hosted a multi-stakeholder Discussion on Inclusivity and Internet Infrastructure Development in Timor-Leste, held at ALFELA Hall, Villa Verde, Dili. The event brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, internet service providers (ISPs), and civil society to explore the current state of digital infrastructure and inclusive access to the internet across the country.

The discussion was moderated by Mr. Abilio Caldas, and featured expert insights from:

  • Mr. Eng. Ambrosio Manuel Barreto Amaral, L. ED. MM – Director of the National Directorate of Infrastructures and Communication (DNIC)
  • Mr. Nazaro MCP Jerónimo – Coordinator of the Office of Consumer Protection, National Communication Authority (ANC)
  • Mr. Sandro Junior – Representative from Metrolink ISP
  • Sr. Eng. Vidal Gomes – Representative from TELEMOR
  • Sr. Dedy Edward Ambarita – Vice President of Finance and Business Partner, TELKOMCEL Timor-Leste S.A
  • Technical Team from Timor Telecom

The event was attended by civil society organizations (CSOs), media professionals, digital rights activists, and academic representatives, who contributed critical questions and perspectives on issues such as:

  • The affordability and accessibility of internet services
  • The importance of inclusive infrastructure development in rural and remote areas
  • The digital divide affecting marginalized groups including women, youth, and people with disabilities
  • Regulatory frameworks and consumer protection in the digital ecosystem
  • Opportunities for multi-sector collaboration to strengthen connectivity and digital equity

This activity was made possible through financial support from the Office of Support to Civil Society (GASC) and aligns with FHT’s broader advocacy mission to promote digital inclusion, infrastructure equity, and civil society engagement in shaping Timor-Leste’s digital future.

FHT reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that digital transformation in Timor-Leste leaves no one behind.
