FHT Director Presents AI Impact on Education at Youth and Academic Workshop

On Tuesday, 8 July 2025, FHT Executive Director Nicho Linux, who was invited by CSEP to present at the Workshop on the Voice of Youth and Academics on Education in Emergency Policy, FHT Director spoke specifically about the Impact of AI on the Education Sector. He highlighted the urgent need to improve digital infrastructure, teacher capacity and national policy to prepare Timor-Leste’s education system for AI integration.

FHT reaffirms its commitment through the digital literacy program in Timor-Leste, support to the school system, continue to advocate for inclusive education to ensure the quality of education in the future. In this presentation, Director FHT also underlined that without strategic investment and curriculum reform, Timor-Leste risks being left behind in the global education landscape oriented to artificial intelligence.

Director Nicho Linux reinforced that as part of FHT’s contribution to training focused on digital skills, FHT has facilitated training directly to more than 3,000 participants including students, teachers, election officials or STAE, civil society, media, and government officials through various trainings such as Digital Literacy, Internet Security, Security, Security IoT, Artificial Intelligence and more. These efforts have been supported in the past few years by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, the Office of the Civil Society Fund, Timor Plaza and through partnership with NGO Belun to provide specialized training to STAE personnel from 12 municipalities including Raeoa.
